Geronimo! - Cheap Trick (2014)

For anyone who loved the worked-up, man-on-fire howl and scrape of bands like Mclusky and early Jesus Lizard, Geronimo! is here to win your black heart. Though it’s named after Cheap Trick, the band with which they share a hometown, there’s very little pop about Cheap Trick. Instead, the record roars and rages for 45 full minutes, Kelly Johnson yelling his throat raw over mule-kicking riffs and jackhammer drums. There’s a desperate freneticism to the record — the songs are powered by a kind of desperate violence, lashing out in panic, and with force. It’s a fantastic freakout.
