Better known to most listeners as a performer and conductor, Dominique Vellard is also a talented composer. As one might expect, Vellard's compositions are highly influenced by his connection to both the content and the styles of the sacred music he has performed over his long career. His writing is primarily contrapuntal, born of his familiarity with Medieval and Renaissance repertoire. On this recording, the men's voices take the role of traditional chantres, or cantors, while the women's voices expand the music's rich sound palette.
