Trumpeter Russ Johnson relocated to the Midwest 2 1/2 years ago after spending more than 2 decades in NYC. Since his arrival, he has become an important fixture on the Chicago music scene.
The group he has put together for Meeting Point features a hand picked collection of Chicago's finest improvisers. This group recently performed at the Umbrella Music Fest & will perform at the Chicago Jazz Festival in Millennium Park this coming August.
Influenced by a wide array of improvised jazz and contemporary classical music, the Russ Johnson Quartet strikes a unique and engaging balance between thematic material and extended improvisation, creating an exciting book of original music which exploits the strengths of the individual musicians while at the same time maintaining a cohesive group sound.
