Sostrah Tinnitus - Les Debris De L'Ete (2004)

Do you remember Tvmvlvs Seraphim, that mysterious and hermetic dark ambient project that came out of the blue towards the end of 2002 with the excellent debut "Centenarian's Divine Lunacy"? This new enigmatic sound creature, called Sostrah Tinnitus, is born right from a member of Tmvmlvs Seraphim. We're still dealing with ambient music, but this time the anxious and industrial tunes of the mother band have been put aside in favour of a different kind of approach, equally tortuous and indecipherable, but at the same time rich of melody, of dreamy atmosphere and natural sounds. Sostrah Tinnitus produces a real acoustic rebus, where ecstatic electronic keyboards meet Arabian harps, the flow of water and the moaning of the wind, like in "Smell Of Moisture After The Rain", while in "Infinite Colonie Di Cirripedi" there are colossal monoliths of sound dominating the scene, moving slowly, like gigantic undersea creatures, like meteors darting in the void of deep space. None of the tracks on the CD seems to sound like the previous or the following, never the music falls into stereotypes or repetition, the micro-symphony for clock arms and bells of "Sepheristerion" is towered by the cacophonic concert for percussions of "Senecio", which then collapses in front of the gloomy ecstasy of "Il Masso Che Si Sposta". The music of "Les Débris De L'Été" needs the listener's whole concentration and involvement to be appreciated, it is necessary to dive into this sound magma and try to catch its different aspects. A difficult and demanding work, which however will fully reward those who will have patience to explore it in deep.
