The East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) was created in 2001 by a group of like-minded musicians striving to infuse a conductor-less chamber orchestra with the agility and verve of a string quartet. The members of ECCO first met as colleagues and friends at leading music schools and festivals across the country and have gone on to lead diverse careers as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral players. For a few concentrated periods of time each year, the ensemble meets to participate in the unique and gratifying process of democratically-run rehearsal and musical exploration. Seating rotates for each work within a program and all members are involved in leadership roles. These rehearsal periods culminate in performances and outreach presentations which have earned ECCO praise across the country and abroad for its passionate and insightful music-making.
