Songs Of Our Years is Gill Sandell's third solo album, a collection of twelve original songs, weaved around the theme of loss and the different perspectives it brings to those affected by it. With an ear for a beautiful melody, Gill delivers her subject with a dark poetry yet a sweet, uplifting tone.
Recorded at the renowned Livingston Studios (managed at one time by Jerry Boys and now refurbished and run by Miloco), Songs Of Our Years features musicians and collaborators from Gill's musical career, including Anna Jenkins and Jo Silverston from The Red Clay Halo, with whom she spent a decade as a multi-instrumentalist, recording four albums and touring Europe, the UK and Australia with BAFTA and Ivor Novello awardwinning, Emily Barker. In addition, there are guest appearances from guitarist Ted Barnes, as well as members of The Leisure Society, Red Snapper and solo performers in their own right, Samantha Whates and Kristin McClement.
Maintaining her strength and independence as a female recording artist, Gill Sandell has self-funded and released Songs Of Our Years on her own label Rowan Tree Records, continuing the path that she laid with her previous albums Tarry Awhile and Light The Boats, as well as 2015 release - duo album with Chris T-T, Walk Away, Walk Away.
"This is gorgeous, what a beautiful record" - Bob Harris
"Gill has a beautiful, clear soft voice which more than matches the sparse strings and rich piano that accompany it. From the first track you can tell this is an accomplished musician... I am smitten by her beautiful music." - For Folk's Sake
