Thumbscrew are: Mary Halvorson - Michael Formanek - Tomas Fujiwara. Convallaria is the second release by Thumbscrew, a trio of three major stars of the modern jazz scene. Their first, self-titled release made a big splash sales-wise and critically. Guitarist Mary Halvorson is one of the most recognizable players on her instrument today. She has a voluminous discography as a leader and sidewoman, and established herself as an important voice in jazz. Bassist Michael Formanek has been an important, grounding force on the scene for over 30 years. In the last few years, he has released three widely praised albums as composer/bandleader on the ECM label. Drummer Tomas Fujiwara grew up in Boston, studying with the legendary Alan Dawson before moving to New York, where he has become an important presence on the current scene.
