Nobody is more loveable than Rufus, the Philly gentleman who heard Coltrane's 'My Favorite Things' and thought to himself, 'Gee, that's neat. But if only it were played on the bagpipe!' His brilliant 1st album, which showcases his tenor & flute as well as the never-quite-in-tune reed-&-goat-bladder in a modal jazz setting. Novelty aside, it's not such a crazy idea. Harley noticed the pipes' similar texture to a soprano sax during a haunting drone played at JFKs televised funeral. And in the days when circular breathing was nearly unheard of, pipes could play tones that went on forever because of their construction.
