Music, like smell, can awaken the strongest memories. Tim Linghaus, brought up in Cold War East Germany, reawakens some of his most vivid memories from the 1980s and ’90s, including attempts to contact his father on a radio frequency, driving home from graduation, and the strangeness of driving across Berlin after the collapse of the Wall. Linghaus’ memories are pieced together with the help of contemporaneous musical influences: an old, worn-out upright piano, early synthesizers, and background acoustic sounds that blur and soften his poignant soundscapes.
