The American singer-songwriter Janis Ian became well-known with her records in the seventies and eighties. 'At Seventeen' and 'Fly too High' are world-famous songs that recently surfaced in the Top 2000. Singer Katrien Verheijden was gripped by the poetic lyrics and the music of Ian with whom she knows how to describe feelings like no other. She releases an album entitled ECHO'S IN MY HEAD, with a special selection from the extensive repertoire of Janis Ian. Mostly translated into Dutch, but also with two English-speaking duets with Janis Ian himself and the release of a never-before-released song titled 'Summer in New York'. The duets were chosen for the beautiful Throught the Years from the album Breaking Silence (1993) and the song I'm still standing by Ian's latest album Strictly Solo (2014).
Katrien chose not only the famous work such as 'At seventeen', 'Society's Child' and 'Jesse', but also more unknown gems like 'Cosmopolitan Girl' and 'She must be beautiful'. The translations were made especially for this project by Kiki Schippers, Judith Schut and Katrien herself. Only exception is the beautiful translation 'Seventeen' by Lennaert Nijgh. With her warm, clear voice, Katrien gives her own personal interpretation to the repertoire. Sparkling, pure and convincing. She sings and tells a story with every song. The accompaniment and backing vocals are in the hands of Jeroen Koning (guitar) and Fons Toonen (double bass) and Katrien herself plays some piano songs. The own arrangements support the meaning and essence of each song. The album was recorded in the Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum during the last winter months. Three songs are provided with string arrangements. The strings of the 'stubborn' Fuse gladly provided their musical services.
