Amado Borcela "Guapacha" recorded various numbers with Bebo Valdes' orchestra Sabor de Cuba before becoming a member of the combo that would be formed by Chucho Valdes, son of the famous pianist. Guapacha sang scat influenced by Billy Eckstine, but with a form of expression that came from the spicy Cuban "guaracha". Among the numbers he made popular with his only LP (1964) is "Indestructible", by Chucho Valdes, a theme of which a better version has yet to be made. On 6 October 1966 Borcela died tragically at the age of 32, cutting short a career that was taking shape brilliantly. Shortly afterwards Chucho Valdes decided to dissolve his combo and the following year he entered the Orquesta de Musica Moderna as a pianist.
