I remember now, every time Kandiafa visits his uncle Mama Sissoko - Ali Farka Touré's famous musical companion - he is welcomed with a booming "Django Reinhardt!!". Yet the young Abdoulaye Koné (aka Kandiafa) received the traditional training of the griot musicians of Bamako in Mali, but his infinite curiosity led him to study Arabic music, Flamenco, as well as most Western styles ... He discovered Country music during a trip in Canada and the United States, and then the Gipsy jazz in France. That’s precisely when he started to build his own musical identity. Like Django, Kandiafa, who is just 30 years old, comes up with a unique sound, and a genuine African style. In the fantastic project MALI COUNTRY it transmits this musical genius which upset me, you have to discover him absolutely!! Vincent Dorléans.
