The Lynne Arriale Trio - With Words Unspoken (1996)

With sympathetic support from bassist Drew Gress and drummer Steve Davis, pianist Lynne Arriale's third DMP release is the equal of her first two. A sensitive and lyrical player who fits into jazz's modern mainstream, Arriale is also able to swing hard ("Windswept" is a good example) and excels on both ballads and medium-tempo romps throughout this superior trio set. In addition to three of her originals, Arriale performs five jazz standards, including most notably Thelonious Monk's "Think of One" and Jimmy Rowles' "The Peacocks." Recommended.
