All the concertos follow the same pattern with a sustained lyrical and wide-ranging (pitch) slow movement flanked by outer movements of considerable brilliance which fully explore and hugely develop the technical challenges of violin playing whilst still remaining lyrical. The last movements are generally of much lighter fare than the first movements but all, of their type, are enjoyable.

This much newer recording made in 1975 is better than that of Grumiaux both as a recording and as a performance. Indeed, Accardo has so significantly raised the bar for these concertos that there have been next to no alternatives made since then. This coupling is as good as all the rest in the series and will give considerable satisfaction to any purchaser interested in the repertoire.
