(EMI: The Groovexperience Series) Jazzcompilations are no longer just for Aficionados, and certainly not those longplayers who specialize in Rare Groove. Anyone who has entered any of the so-called funky dancefloors in the last few years will have swung their dancing leg to many a rare groove pearl. As popular as music is, it is difficult to define and delineate the concept of rare groove precisely because it encompasses a wide variety of genres. His best pieces are recruited from soul, funk and jazz. In the late eighties, in the wake of the acid jazz era, soul, funk and jazz records from the sixties and seventies were back in high demand. Quite a few original albums made three-digit sums on stock exchanges, while at the same time samples of rare groove classics appeared in more and more hip-hop tracks. Today, rare groove tracks are an integral part of the dancefloor culture.

The exquisite dozen compilations of the Groovexperience series compiled by France's Blue Note Division are aimed at both beginners and the initiated. The first six episodes first appeared five years ago. Complemented by six new episodes, the complete twelve-part series is now being released. Each compilation covers a certain topic, sometimes genre-typical like the soul-soaked "Feelin 'the Spirit", sometimes sparkling like "Strut'n'Get Up", sometimes more politically motivated like "Say It Loud!", Sometimes rather made for private Room: "Tender Feelin's". Among the total of 179 tracks are not only a number of blue-note jazz greats such as Cannonball Adderley, Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock and Horace Silver, but also the soul voices of Tina Turner, Bobby Womack and Minnie Riperton, the finest funk by Brass Construction, Maze and T-Connection and numerous cult stars (Yma Sumac, Candido, Willie Bobo) and selected rarities. The cover design of the Groovexperience series - this time all models are drawn in a sexy, lively and stylized way - is based on the fashion trends of the seventies: colors and shapes, interiors and accessories reflect the spirit of this brightly colored decade. Conclusion: Groovexperience is in every respect an excitingly sensual experience and a fascinating hunting adventure on the archival treasures of Blue Note, Pacific Jazz, Capitol and other selected labels of the EMI dynasty. Groovexperience - an attractive acoustic cruise for a small price.
