MEMORIES I-X is the first part of a musical decalogue by universal filmmaker Patrick Siegfried Zimmer. Created for 30 years, every 3 years 10 diary entries. So is the artist's plan, "set the case that I am at least 70 years old and will leave me neither the inspiration nor the will to live." You can still expand then.
Patrick Siegfried Zimmer appeared in 2003 under the pseudonym finn with the album Expose Yourself To Lower Education for the first time on the scene. Immediately with resounding success, not only in Germany. In 2008 he toured Europe with Ólafur Arnalds, joined the legendary jazz festival in Montreux in 2009 together with Stephan Eicher (formerly Grauzone, now one of the most famous French-speaking chansonniers) and writer Philippe Djian (Betty Blue) and played several concerts with José Gonzáles. At that time Thomas Winkler wrote in DIE ZEIT: »The election hamburger Patrick Siegfried Zimmer alias finn makes, more radical than all others, where Cat Stevens once did his work [...] He lives the soft and yielding, sets repressed and forgotten feelings free, he drips balm on tortured souls and lets the world look generously into his heart. "
The recordings for MEMORIES I-X began in 2011, initially without a specific plan. Patrick Siegfried Zimmer sporadically recorded song sketches, only guitar and vocals. Last year he came up with the idea of summarizing and publishing these pieces as a diary. And almost every week he was able to present at least one more track. Last but not least, the string arrangements by visual artist and violinist Ruth May have significantly changed the pieces and expanded them by one dimension. Jonas Landerschier, the most well known as "Jones" comrade of Jan Delay & Rocko Schamoni, played the wing. Flo Dürrmann (Kante) contributed various guitar voices and Rainer Sell (Kante / The Notwist) trombone sound.
The finn-day familiar handwriting is clearly recognizable on MEMORIES I-X, but the new album is luscious, mature, and laid back. A close to Roddy Frame, Roy Harper, Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazlewood or Ron Sexsmith can be guessed. The name finn belongs to another time, another ego. "With MEMORIES I-X, I've come a step closer to the album I always wanted to do," says Patrick Siegfried Zimmer.
