On her new album, Here Comes Trouble, Austin’s Kendall Beard continues in the proud tradition of country artists like Loretta, Dolly, Shania and Miranda — all feminists who aren’t afraid to show their strength. Or their vulnerability. Like those latter two ladies, her sound fuses country and pop, with an occasional push into rock territory. The record, slated for release Oct. 19, 2018, on VMG/Broken Angel Records, was produced by AJ Vallejo, her songwriting partner and band mate in the Texas roots-rock band Love & Chaos.
Describing her intent with this provocatively titled effort, Beard says she wanted to cut loose. “It’s about breaking free in the moment and coloring outside of the lines, going against the grain,” she explains. “I wanted to put something out that was a bit edgy; something that would stir up some talk.”
Beard and Vallejo co-wrote four of the album’s 11 songs, including the first single, “Rock This City,” a country-spiced rocker. Look for Beard to stir up some trouble with that tune and other great crossover originals including “Broken Angel” and “Ready to Roll” — on which she proclaims, “I’m ready to rock/If you’re ready to roll” — this fall in venues throughout Texas. And get ready to party.
