Jacques Loussier - Play Bach No. 4 (2001) CD-Rip

Of the original Play Bach series vol. 1-5, recorded 1959-65, this is the odd one out. With overdubbed organ parts throughout (played by Loussier), this is unlike anything else he made before or since. The recording technique of the day (1963) was perhaps not quite up to the task, the piano sounds somewhat muffled when playing alongside the organ, but this is no major problem. Loussier of course shines, but there is much imaginative playing from his brillant sidemen too. This music really hits you beneath the skin - at times you feel the piano represents a small, human voice conversing with the mighty, godlike voice of the organ. A strange, rewarding, oddly moving listen, but definitely a nonstarter (and well, if you don't like it, the whole thing is over in about 29 minutes...).
