A great CD for a relaxing afternoon enjoying the beauty of jazz. This is not a recording dedicated to innovations in jazz; but dedicated to enjoying the legacy of jazz. The tunes are mostly very upbeat with lots of swing. The recording includes Harold Mabern, one of the best jazz pianists and Kieran Overs on bass playing music composed by Philadelphia jazz musicians: Ray Bryant, Benny Golson, Lee Morgan, John Coltrane, Bobby Timmons, Jimmy Heath, Cal Massey. They also play "Edward Lee" composed by Mabern who was born in Memphis,TN. "Are you Real" displays Mabern playing the piano in such an impressive manner that one has to ask: Are you Real?. Philadelphia bound is a very upbeat tune where Mabern displays his mastery of the blues, and towards the end of this tune there is really enjoyable conversation between piano and bass. Ceora is a beautiful Lee Morgan ballad, with a delightful solo from Kieran Overs. The Cry of my people is played as a piano solo in this album by Mabern; all others are duets.
