Part 1 of PROFIL’s Mravinsky Edition met with concentrated enthusiasm in the press. It advanced among others to the tip of the Bavarian Rundfunks and even got a special mention in Rondo, where the edition was characterized as “timelessly gripping.” The second part includes some of the most important Mravinsky recordings available, including the unprecedented best recording of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth as well as an admirably executed Symphonie Fantastique. These recordings reveal that Mravinsky had extraordinary technical control over the orchestra, especially in the dynamics. He often switches tempo to increase the musical effect, making frequent use of copper blowers. He was known for his sober appearance, using only simple but clear hand gestures, often without baton. This second volume of this unique edition brings the talent of Mravinsky to the ears.
