Constantijn Lange - Elysian Fields (2019)

Since we last heard from him in 2017, Constantijn Lange has been beavering away in the studio. 18 months on, we finally get to hear the results: an expansive debut album that should win the producer plenty of plaudits. Reminiscent of some glassy-eyed, synthesizer-heavy sets on Balearic-minded imprints such as Permanent Vacation, "Elysian Fields" sees him serve up a range of colourful, melody-driven cuts that variously touch on a wide variety of styles (ambient, nu-disco, deep house, cosmic disco, Balearic beats and, in the case of standout "Aerolite", acid-flecked Italian dream house). Lange's grasp of mood and melody ensures that all ten tracks not only hit the mark, but come together beautifully on a set that fits both sofa-bound home listening and DJ-friendly club spins.
