Amira Kheir - View From Somewhere (2011)

Amira Kheir has been described as possessing ''an identity that transcends geography.'' Her father is Sudanese, her mother Italian, and Amira grew up in both cultures. Now she makes her home in London, where transcending geography is also what she does with her music. Her original songs blend the folk and classical styles of Northeastern Africa with jazz, Latin grooves and the mellower side of American soul music, delivered with the vibrancy of multicultural London. Her lyrics, whether in Arabic or in English, explore themes of home, identity, belonging, and spirituality in the modern world. View from Somewhere is Amira Kheir's debut album.
