An October evening 2017 during the Stockholm Jazz Festival, saxophonist Örjan Hultén, bassist Filip Augustson and drummer Fredrik Rundqvist joined the stage on BAS. The gentlemen were not aware that the concert would be recorded, but were so pleased with the result that they decided to release the concert in their entirety, unedited, which they thank Fredrik Nordström for in the envelope. So now all of us who did not attend October 14, 2017 can enjoy the performance through our speakers at home on the house or through the headphones when we go public.
Just as Örjan himself writes in the press release, the recording has a special feeling. It is intimate and the musicians' dialogue (or trialog?) Feels very close. Mostly the trio deals with their own material, but they also take on Ornette Coleman's Lonely woman in a stripped and roots version and Joe Henderson's Y todavia la quiero. Without a chord instrument such as a keyboard or guitar, the soloists here get a great deal of freedom to stretch out and go beyond the frames without actually releasing the red thread in each piece. A record for those who appreciate the somewhat freer approach to modern jazz.
