For Jackie Guy, five-time Saskatchewan Country Music association award nominee, music has never been a choice; it’s always been there. Guy’s father was instrumental in encouraging her passion for music, purchasing a bass guitar for her in the fifth grade. Her humble beginnings with the family band led to stints with Young Country and Long Shot, and then to a solo career that continues to present her with songwriting and performing opportunities that have not only surprised her at times but also have developed and challenged her as an artist.
