According to the idea of ??the record company, the group had to be a "pipe" rock combo in the spirit of Blood, Sweat & Tears or Chicago bands. Instead of Ozzy Lane's lead singer, Colin Horton-Jennings was invited to the octet, who began writing songs that were supposed to replace the rhythm and blues, which at that time prevailed in the group's live sets.
The debut album Horizons, released in March 1970, remained unnoticed in the homeland, although it was a well-crafted and balanced material and had several outstanding compositions, such as the single "Real Cool World" (released in February 1970 and attracted a European audience) or " Angelina ». Reviewer Allmusic in his review of the debut album separately singled out the rhythm section Ron Prudence (drums) and Norman Watt-Roy (bass). The second single, "Tell The Story", suffered the fate of the first.
Album The Going's Easy, released in the same year, in places resembles the sound of Blood, Sweat & Tears with enhanced rock-energy. The song "Magic Touch Woman" was later sung by musicians of The Hollies The Going's Easy became the band's last album; Due to lack of interest in the homeland, the team disbanded by mid-1971.
The Greatest Show on Earth was one of the most "heavily" sounding British bands that came out of the post-psychedelia of the late 60's and had at their disposal a brass section
