Gustavo Melo has the guitar as an instrument to develop his work of composition and production of Brazilian instrumental music. In his career he played and recorded with musicians such as the gaitan Gabriel Grossi, the soprista Carlos Malta, the guitarist Fábio Nin, the clarinetist Rui Alvim, the flutist PC Castilho, the pianist Gabriel Geszti, the guitarist Thomas Saboga, among others. The CD Valsa de Índio was awarded on Radio MEC / Nacional as best instrumental music (Paulo Moura trophy), and the song Tango dos Periquitos as best arrangement, made by Thomas Saboga (trophy Radamés Gnattali). In the CD Mult, recorded in 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, the influences ranging from Villa-Lobos to Egberto Gismonti, Bill Evans, to Hamilton of Holland and Milton Nascimento are clear.
"By making in his music a playful, non-literal approach of traditional musical styles (such as jazz or tango) and, at the same time, of batuques of different influences, Gustavo Melo performs works of multicultural profile whose objective is not to present a or other style, but to emphasize the universal and plural character of Brazilian music, capable of dialoguing with the timing of all rhythms and cultures. "
