Vladimir Alfonseca - La Danza de las Miradas (2019)

Perhaps the fundamental characteristic of the contemporary Mexican jazz movement is its diversity and the number of musicians and projects. At the bottom of this configuration is the dialectic between training and profession. The new generations of jazz players have the best possible formation in history at an early age. And in that sense the possibility of developing a profession as never before in the history of popular Mexican music. It happens that the shadow of American and New York jazz in particular weighs heavily on this emerging conformation. This feature weighs and promotes, perhaps more first than second. At another point on the gradient there is a group of young musicians who are looking for the root, building contemporary Mexican music projects that merge, articulate, manage symbiosis between tradition and the diversity of today's musical world. The salsa, the techno, the rock, the son, are some of the figures from which, with which, these musicians wish to express what their generation means. Music with roots, the same rock as they are. The theme is complex and fascinating. From this melting pot is part of the project that we present here, contemporary Mexican jazz, contemporary Mexican music with harmonies composed of jazz and traditional son. A project which is nice to make a note and a comment.
