For many years now, the Camerata Köln has been one of the world's leading special ensembles for early music, which is proven not least by the numerous recordings praised by the press.
In honor of the 300th birthday of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, the ensemble is dedicated to chamber music works from different creative periods of the famous Bach son. In addition to the quartets Wq. 93-95, written in Hamburg in 1788, the CD also contains the Sonata for Viola da Gamba Wq. 88 from his time at the court of Frederick the Great and the Trio Wq. 163 for viola, bass recorder and basso continuo, which is a rarity within the trio compositions, as here a bass recorder is used as a melody instrument.
With incredible lightness and precision, the musicians of the Camerata Cologne - Karl Kaiser and Michael Schneider (flute), Ulla Bundies (viola), Rainer Zipperling (cello) and Sabine Bauer (fortepiano) - impressively show how much brilliance and fire in chamber music CPE Bach is infected.
