Mahwash is a legend in Afghanistan. She was awarded ex patria the title of Ustad (Master)in 1997. In the wake of the tragic events of the time, she quit her country for California and doubled her public appearances throughout the United States and Europe, where fervent audiences appreciate her musky voice with its command of the subtle art of ornamentation. Amongst the musicians who accompany her today, some of them, such as Khalil Ragheb and Daoud Khan Sadozai of Afgan origin, were already working with her in the 1960s when she was singing for Radio Kabul.
