Etrange et belle histoire que celle d'Anthony Rolfe Johnson, ce ténor qui sommeillait et ne s'est réveillé qu'à l âge de trente-trois ans. Né en 1940 dans l'Oxfordshire, Anthony Rolfe Johnson voit basculer sa vie entière lorsqu'il découvre tardivement sa voix d'une rareté absolue. Disparu en 2010, Anthony Rolfe Johnson est l'une des premières grandes voix ayant considérablement élargi le répertoire lyrique de Monteverdi à Britten. Ce disque est un hommage poignant à cet artiste intemporel. Lui qui répondait toujours « oui » à qui le demandait avec une humilité stupéfiante comme si la musique parlait en son nom. Revivez le récital palpitant donné en 1996 par le célèbre ténor anglais accompagné de Graham Johnson au piano, un enregistrement issu de l'inestimable fonds d'archives de La Monnaie.
