An ode to the jazz tradition, to swing, conceived with communicative veracity and taste. Looking Beyond is the new recording episode signed by Carlo Uboldi Trio guest Emanuele Cisi, a brilliant formation formed by Carlo Uboldi (piano, except in Walkin 'Over), Valerio Della Fonte (double bass) and Massimo Manzi (drums), in which, as a special guest , figure one of the most representative Italian jazz saxophonists of the last 25 years: Emanuele Cisi (tenor sax, except for The Opener). The tracklist consists of eleven tracks, including Malupa, Looking Beyond (fifth track on the CD), Sibelia and Panegra autographed by Uboldi, Lady K signed by Cisi, and Oh, Beh !, Walkin 'Over and Time Does It written by Della Source, while Invitation (Bronislaw Kaper), The Opener (Bill Evans) and Circus (Louis Alter) complete the playlist. Malupa's climax is soothing, full of romanticism, adorned with a theme that shines with singability, expressive candor and interpretative sobriety. The playing of Emanuele Cisi is hinged on a superfine melodic sense, as well as embellished by some sudden and chromatic sparks. Uboldi expresses himself through a very captivating speech, full of heady bluesy inflections. Valerio Della Fonte's improvisational speech stands out for its musicality and effective communication. Lady K is a hilarious, solar composition. The saxophonist architects a fluent, adamantine elocution, from which emerges his profound knowledge of the boppistic (and hard-boppista) language. Even in this song the flowing and fluid gait of Carlo Uboldi is transformed into a fascinating bluesy mood. The enthralling Walkin ’Over up-tempo has a strong impact from the very first measures. Here the dialogue between Cisi and Manzi is dense, vibrant, in which the drummer chisels a stimulating and energetic comping, to then give life to a single torrential and harmonious. In full mainstream vein, Looking Beyond is an album in which the four protagonists set the goal of praising the essential and fundamental values of the jazz tradition, transmitting this artistic message with admirable intellectual honesty, tangible sensibility of soul and authentic devotion .
