Gead Mulheran - One With Everything (2019)

The album "One with everything" reveals through its assertive melodies and bold yet unpretentious arrangements, the multiple influences of Gead Mulheran, in the original compositions as "Hands off", cross over jazz / pop with its copper riff recalling the group "Incognito", and a melodic line that is retained from the first listening. 'On the swing' or the spirit of the great standards interferes with the sax piano phrasing and the very structure of the song. So this' with elegant arrangements that take us back to the big 70s big band themes of Morton Stevens, or Sammy Nestico. The link between compositions and standards, is successful. The past joins the present in Miss Jones, a hard bop and minimalist treatment for this great classic where piano and sax solos sublimate the whole. "Hard days night" for a totally unexpected version of this Beatles tube or the Jazz-waltz tempo and the trombone hook expresses all the pathos of the text.
