Formed in 1965 in Madison, WI, by John Valentine, Doug Henry, Steve Ellmann, and Rick Pfeifer, the Mourning Dayze had a garage-based psychedelic sound that resulted in a pair of 45s (including the psych classic "Fly My Paper Plane") for Ray Peck's Chicago-area Kiderian Records in 1967. Both sides of the two singles plus six other sides recorded for Kiderian were collected on the CD Lost Recordings, released by Gear Fab in 2007. The Mourning Dayze were still an active band several decades later, and continued to be based in Madison.
