After the success of Touch of Grey and In The Dark as a whole, the record label the Grateful Dead were signed to at the time were anxious for them to return to the studio and record another album. The follow-up to In The Dark, Built To Last ended up as the band’s final studio album due to the perpetually unfinished state of Days Between.
The album proved to be successful, especially the album’s opening track Foolish Heart, albeit not as successful as the band’s prior studio effort had been. The album was the band’s longest studio album, totaling in at roughly 50 minutes long. The album also features the most songs where Brent Mydland provided lead vocals, which is four songs. He also has writing credits on each of these songs, which is also the most out of any of the band’s albums.
