Purpura is the solo harsh-noise project of Andrea Nucamendi, originally from Chiapas, Mexico, formed in 2014 and currently located in Geneva Switzerland. She recently performed in Newcastle at The Old Police Houses new home, Alphabetti Theatre, alongside 1727, Stable and Lacrima, the new project from Opal Tapes boss, Bishop (Basic House). Side A is the straight recording of her set that evening, one which on revisiting reminded me greatly of Mo*te's incredible 'Life In A Peaceful New World', an album it turns out we both have great respect for. As such this side A recording is titled 'New World In A Peaceful Death' and serves as a sign of respect to Fumiyuki Naguras incredible art. Dense, textured harsh noise is the sound here, expertly delivered through Purpura's tabletop electronics. Lacrima's piece 'Dust Sculptures' orbits slowly around a choral centre of morose sadness. Created from recordings of lathes, drills and metal polishing equipment and composed over winter of 2018.
