Dong Hyek Lim takes two pianistic roles on this all-Rachmaninov album: soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Alexander Vedernikov in the much-loved Piano Concerto No 2 in C minor, and duo partner to his mentor, the great Martha Argerich, in the composer’s two-piano transcription of the enthralling and enigmatic Symphonic Dances. Lim’s credentials in Russian music are rooted in the formative period he spent as a young student at Moscow’s Central School of Music and Conservatory.

Dong Hyek Lim (piano)
Martha Argerich (piano)
BBC Symphony Orchestra
Alexander Vedernikov (conductor)

What does Argerich like about him ?
Instantaneous power ?
Or because he refused 3rd prize in Queen Elisabeth Competition ?
Or a tuner put something in his piano in Chopin Competition final for making Rafał Blechacz win ? (The incident occurred between 1st movement and 2nd of Chopin's piano concerto No. 2. He asked the conductor to check inside the piano, someone knows video ?)
I would choose Seong-Jin Cho though :p
Thanks

Dong Hyek Lim say:

"In playing the concerto, I did not try to make excessive interpretations. Some will say that it sounds flat and lacks personality, but I think that this work itself already requires a lot of emotions and feelings, it is useless to add to it, it is artificial. That's why I didn't add extreme interpretations."

And so he do...

Thanks for info but she likes his way ?
She calls him "Limichenko" like Russian because he studied in Moscow and in recent years she has played with him most

The answer is here:

http://www.donga.com/en/article/all/20190514/1729087/1/Lim-Dong-hyek-releases-Rachmaninov-s-Piano-Concerto-album

"After playing this in Hamburg, Germany last year, Argerich said her best lifetime performance of the Symphonic Dances was with “Limichenko,” a nickname Argerich gave to Lim Dong-hyek.”

And:

"...a Chopin Preludes album, which was chosen as one of the Gramophone Magazine’s Editor’s Choice recordings, and this marks Lim first concert recording. The pianist also played Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances for four hands with his teacher and sponsor Martha Argerich for his album."

"Lim still boasts the intelligent and clinical precision that he showed off as teenager. The ability to interpret both lyrical and realistic sides of the work and mix them together with subtlety is his unique forte. In this aspect, Lim is much like his teacher Argerich. And the new album shows such a feature. "

"Symphonic Dances is the number that earned Lim and his teacher a standing ovation in their performance last Tuesday at Seoul Arts Center for “Beppu Argerich Festival in Seoul.”

Thanks again ^.^
Argerich always praises her co-players :p
In my opinion present her gets inspired by playing the young pianist with pure and strong tone like the old her.
I checked him as much as I can listen to.
Before Chopin Competition in 2005 I felt him talented, so flowing but in recent years like this Rachmaninov saddly rigid or forceful.
15 years ago I would like to have played with him :p
