Firma Melodiya presents recordings of Brahms and Prokofiev concertos performed by Natalia Gutman and Oleg Kagan. One of the worlds best cellists, a Peoples Artist of the USSR, and an owner of the State Prize of Russia, Natalia Gutman received four competition prizes when she was a student. In the third round of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competiion, she made a brilliant appearance with Sergei Prokofievs Symphony-Concerto, the great composers last work which was yet to be estimated by its true worth. Natalia Gutmans brightest artistic alliance was with her husband and remarkable violinist Oleg Kagan. A pupil of David Oistrakh, numerouse prize winner, Oleg Kagan was famous as a soloist and ensemble performer, and fine interpreter of classical and contemporary music. His death interrupted his active performing career in the prime of his life. The album features Oleg Kagan and Natalia Gutman playing Johannes Brahmss double concerto, the German masters last orchestral piece. The soloists are accompanied by the USSR State Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov and Alexander Lazarev.
