Another mysterious Drive Archive release, released under license from The Kruger Organization (TKO) which seems, based on the recording dates, to have drawn most of it from Columbia releases that are not currently in print from Sony, but which do appear on the French-based Classics label's Chronological Count Basie. The rest are live recordings, radio transcriptions that are otherwise in print from Hindsight and other labels. The mastering is only fair, with some very ragged fades and endings on a handful of the tracks. There's nothing here that can't be found elsewhere in a superior package, although Scott Yanow's notes do a good job of accounting for the personnel and the band's early history. Drive's Royal Roost release is more important as a musical document.~Bruce Eder
