Marshall Chapman - Jaded Virgin (1978)

MChapman is a woman singer with country roots, but when she sings the story of wanting to be a hard-rocking tom-girl ("Why Can't I Be Like Other Girls?"), she's completely believable. Her originals are lively and her selection of interpretive material astute: Bob Seger's on-the-road lament "Turn the Page" is given a first-rate treatment as is the Johnny Cash standard "I Walk the Line." A little slick in places, but this one definitely makes you understand what her reputation's based upon.
