SPECIALLY PRICED 2:1 The United Jazz Rock Ensemble, or UJRE, is not your standard big band, nor is it an all-star ensemble in the usual sense, with a compact sound and various resplendent soloists. No, the UJRE is the band of bandleaders, as it has often been appropriately called. That is, a Formula One team in which only champions are at the controls. Or a tribe of Indians with only chiefs gathered around the campfire. Since their legendary debut Live im Schützenhaus (1977) to the Farewell Tour in 2002, the bands mastermind Wolfgang Dauner and his co-chiefs toured all over Germany the audience couldnt get enough of the fantastic interaction between the numerous strong musical personalities, and turned up in droves at their concerts. But the magic of the UJRE has also been preserved on CD. 1978s Teamwork, successor to the furious Schützenhaus album, shows the classic line-up of the band on top form: Dauner, Albert Mangelsdorff, Charlie Mariano & Co. harmonising like a dream. In Round Seven from 1987, the ensemble gives the soloists plenty of room for example, super-drummer Jon Hiseman, sensitive guitarist Volker Kriegel, or Eberhard Weber with his unmistakable bass sound.
