A special jazz album will be released at the beginning of October 2019 by the Mainz label Klangraum. Mainz-born guitarist and composer Markus Fleischer and Icelandic-born pianist Agnar Magnússon have recorded "Schimmer", an album with 10 very delicate pieces.
The albums "Let's Call It A Day" (2015), "Scandinavian Lights" (with singer Andrea Reichert, 2014) and "All These Dreams Told To The Moon" (Peanuts Homage with guitarist colleagues Tilmann Höhn and John Stowell, 2013). The new album "Schimmer" is very different from the previous projects. The title is a kind of program. And not exactly to describe. Because a shimmer can be color, nuance or shading. In any case, it is discreet, restrained, arising or passing away. The track titles, partly in English, partly in German, are also rather loose keywords to the content.
A sophisticated intertwining of guitar (Höfner Verythin and 1957 Gibson ES-135) and piano (Fender Rhodes) distinguishes them. They seem very homogeneous in their fascinatingly calm interaction. The album is a potpourri of delicate treasures to dream and relax. Subtle sounds and melodies that change constantly, yet remain true to themselves. The reason for this special sound is the combination of jazz elements and improvisation with classical music. And although it was created in the studio, the album sounds almost like live. "Malinconia" (melancholy in Italian) is a tribute to its title, especially chilling and decelerating pieces are "Strange Meeting" (by the American guitarist Bill Frisell) and the more jazzy "Taunus melody" (Markus Fleischer).
