Quartetazzo is a flute ensemble that wisely administers the skills of four outstanding performers from Madrid’s improvised music scene. They are Leticia Malvares, Trinidad Jiménez, Carmen Vela and Emilse Barlatay. But they are also joined by a fifth musician, Epi Pacheco, whose percussion adds a base to the melodic flow.
What is really paradoxical about the creation of this band is that something as random as the heterogeneous origins and trajectories of its members, who come from Spain, Brazil and Argentina, is what is responsible for their repertoire of self-penned compositions, filled with ideas that come from swing and bulerías, from chacarera and forró, and these are just four of the numerous styles that feed their vast catalogue of popular music.
This young band has taken part in the Terras sem sombras festival in Portugal, in the Jazz en la Fundación cycle at the Fundación Carlos Amberes, and in emblematic venues in Madrid, such as Bogui Jazz, Café Berlin and AC Recoletos. In the last few months, Quartetazzo have been working on the preparations for their first album. The record is called “En el Aire” and has recently become available in stores. Now we’ll see how they perform on stage.
