Christmas in Romsdalsk has been active in recent years with a number of concerts locally in the Romsdals area, and has now recorded its debut album. Five jazz musicians who all have their roots in Romsdalen have mixed together a fine collection of Christmas songs and given them new life in a jazzy outfit that will get every listener in the Christmas mood.
Christmas in Romsdalsk is a project created with a desire to link well-known and beloved Christmas songs to their upbringing and local roots. These are events with Christmas swinging jazz, prickly ballads, and lyrics translated to kav Romdalsk so clear. Sealed with the Romsdal dialect come live titles such as "Kvit jul", "Sledetur" and "Santa Claus come here tonight". The ballad "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" has turned into "Seeing Choir Fine on the Long December e", while "Deck The Halls" is played in bossa nova style in "Hang the garlands in a quarter corner". Everything sewn together in stories about Christmas as we know it - with snowman in the garden and clementine in the stomach; sparkling mutton and gingerbread, stick meat and aquavit; Romsdalshorn with white clothes.
The album ends with artistic contributions from two established guest musicians: "Let It Snow" with violinist Ola Kvernberg, and "Christmas song" in duo format with only jazz pianist Erling Aksdal and vocalist Malin Dahl Ødegård. The jazz quintet is also supplemented with strings on several of the songs, which nails the Christmas mood with its familiar sound in the story of the Romsdal Christmas.
Musicians:
Malin Dahl Ødegård - vocals
Lauritz Skeidsvoll - tenor saxophone
Stian Unhjem - guitar
Torkil Hjelle - double bass
Magnus Stefaniassen Eide - drums
