The year 1973 turned out to be prolific for the Detroit Emeralds, who released not one but two of what many would consider to be their finest albums since their days on the Ric-Tic imprint during the heydays of Motown. The first half of this two-fer collection, I'm in Love with You, isn't the strongest of the two albums, although it does provide for some lively moments, including "So Long," "You're Getting Too Smart" (a nominee for a lost soul classic if there ever were one), and "Whatcha Gonna Wear Tomorrow." The extended version of the Emeralds' classic "Feel the Need in Me" is alone worth the price of admission for soul enthusiasts. Kudos to Westbound for taking the time to reissue two nuggets of lost Detroit soul.
