Madeleine Barnard - Mother City Jazz / Smalltown Blues (2019)

Mother City Jazz/Smalltown Blues traces Madeleine’s journey from the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town to a small town in the arid Karoo Region. The CD offers an eclectic mix of genres. She celebrates the joy of the Mother City and describes the challenges and the humorous aspects of the completely new world she now inhabits in songs ranging from jazz and blues to rock, folk and a spot of township jive. The male vocal quartet Unity Male Voices joins her on three tracks. The songs are sung in two languages, eight tracks in English and four in Afrikaans.
