Last week, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard auctioned test pressings of their third LP this year—the Mild High Club collaboration Sketches of Brunswick East—on eBay. Today, the band surprise released the album via ATO. They premiered it by playing the record on their Facebook live stream. Stream it below, and check out the tracklisting and cover art. Physical editions of the LP will be available in October and are now available for pre-order. So far this year, the Australian psychedelic rock band have shared two full-length releases—February’s Flying Microtonal Banana and June’s follow-up Murder of the Universe. The band plan on releasing five albums before 2017 is over.
The project is inspired by Brunswick East, the Melbourne suburb in which King Gizzard write and record. “We’re always walking up and down the street all the time,” says frontman Stu Mackenzie. “Going to get coffee, lugging amps, just constantly wandering Lygon Street... seeing the terrain change as new apartment buildings are erected, watching the cranes build bigger cranes. In that respect, perhaps it represents greater changes that are happening in the wider world, and this is our attempt to find beauty within a place that we spend so much time.”
