Hello Stranger greets the world as the debut album by teenage phenomenon Eliza Meyer from Raleigh, NC. A high school junior, she has already developed her own roots style based in old-time music with influences from classic country music and bluegrass. Cathy Fink and Liam Purcell, himself a remarkable teen musician and songwriter with Cane Mill Road, produced the album.
From the liner notes by Thomas Goldsmith, author of Earl Scruggs and Foggy Mountain Breakdown: The Making of an American Classic:
“Eliza Meyer has drunk deeply from North Carolina’s well of traditional tunes and songs, filling her life with music that is meaningful and evocative as well as fun to play.
“Born after the turn of the century in Raleigh, Eliza has played violin since 6, worked in old-time fiddle and singing since 8, and added banjo at 13. Her place of birth, talent, and outgoing ways meant that great Tar Heel musicians not only influenced her, but have also become her musical partners….
“That’s what Eliza Meyer accomplishes on this remarkable first album — singing right from the heart as she crisply presents the music she’s devoted her young life to learning.”
