A group from San Luis Obispo, California, formed in 1966 and originally known as Pacific Grass & Electric. The name of the group was changed to “The Yankee Dollar” by legendary music producer Frank Slay (“Strawberry Alarm Clock”, “Sugarloaf”, Freddie Cannon, “Danny & The Juniors”) due to fear that the band with the old name will be banned from the local conservative radio station “Drake Stations” (as happened with one of the previous groups of Slay, when the owner of the radio station Bill Drake discovered that their song was about drugs). One way or another, due to Slay's involvement in the project, the group was never allowed to the Drake Stations. The debut album, released by Dot Records in 1968, was the only one.
