Rémi Gaudillat Sextet - Electric Extension (2020)

Electric Extension, like the wish to start from the human and musical adventure of the Possible (s) Quartet (2 trumpets, 1 trombone, 1 bass clarinet), to use the richness of its history and to add an electric guitar and a percussion set (digital percussion and keyboards). This electrical extension then makes it possible to write and approach closer to large ensembles than chamber music formations. Let us also imagine that some instrumentalists could use keyboards, sampled sounds, laptops, which will add even more to the possibilities of this orchestra.

Extension, like the expression of a movement.

The musical movement, first. The one who contributes to the lively music, the one who gives all the depth to the written sentence, the one who gives the impetus to the development of an improvisation, to the circulation of ideas.

The dance movement, then. Orchestral, like a dance art, related to music and poetry, among others. Physical dimension, bodily expression of music.

And then, the movement is that of nomads ("who has no fixed habitation"), like these musicians who build their own imaginary journey or folklore, on the borders of several musics, refusing to choose or to enclose oneself in the codes of a single aesthetic - "which has no fixed aesthetic", which moves music constantly, always in movement ... The movement of wandering, so close to a certain conception of improvisation: leaving without knowing where it will lead us, trusting the journey: always on the move, never on the spot, in the quest for something.
