Black Bones - Ghosts & Voices (2020)

Following the release of their album Kili Kili over two years ago (reviewed here), Black Bones is on the move. The group formed by ex-Bewitched Hands Anthonin Ternant is walking on the embers of its former group and has succeeded in this reinvention. A year after their surprise album called The Wolf Under The Moon (reviewed here), the Rémois once again summons the spirits with Ghosts & Voices.

So here come eleven tracks where Black Bones takes us into their halloween world with a "Love As A Child" as an opening. Anthonin Ternant’s still familiar voice and his hybrid and entertaining psychedelic pop can be found on colorful titles like “Creepy Rain”, “I’m A Believer” and “Destiny”.

Unlike its predecessors, Ghosts & Voices is more homogeneous but is no less fun to listen to. The satanic rites are mocked with "Monster" where the synthesized voices appear for example but the Gothic aspect is never diluted either on the catchy "Marianne", "Dead Skies" and "New Angel" . After a more calm and melancholy truce with "Suddenly", Black Bones adds a layer with a "Happy" which is in the image of their engaging and quirky universe with which we are still familiar as much. With Ghosts & Voices, Gothic rites and medieval atmospheres are accessible to all thanks to the overflowing good humor of the Rémois group.
